unwanted information

Freud defined denial as the refusal to recognize the existence or truth of unwelcome facts, and classified it among the defense mechanisms we unconsciously employ to protect ourselves from anxiety or distress.

At least 20 percent of seriously ill people who are told that they are near death actually forget the news within a few days, a form of denial so extreme that it involves not simply rejecting but entirely obliterating unwanted information.

Denial is not, after all, a response to the facts. It is a response to the feelings those facts evoke and sometimes, those feelings are simply too much to bear.

If you have stayed in your comfort zone for a very long time, it is likely that you are denying a thing or two.

What are you denying?
